What is MusicSketch®?
The MusicSketch® app is designed to help songwriters and musicians at all levels capture music ideas on their mobile devices. We aspire to deliver a product that will make it simple for artists to create and refine their music and then share those ideas. We are committed to supporting a collaborative experience at many levels; the current release provides the ability to easily share song files so multiple people can work together on a music idea, lead sheet or song. Our innovative Direct Interface BOard (DiBo!™) allows for quick and easy note entry, and our UI adapts additional notation elements. The new Audio Mixer makes it easy to create essentially your own band based on chord changes. And all of this can be auditioned in hi def audio with our curated suite of exceptionally-sounding instruments. While our platform doesn't capture the full functionality of desktop music publishing software, we think the tradeoff for speed, simplicity, and accessibility is more than worth it. We appreciate and welcome input from all of our users. New capabilities are in the works, and we will continue to make trade-offs to ensure that MusicSketch® remains uncluttered and easy to use, allowing musicians of all levels to focus on their creative ideas.
What is the focus of MusicSketch?
We are interested in helping songwriters and musicians of all levels capture and refine their music ideas on the go and on their iPhone.
How do I use MusicSketch to create music?
We designed MusicSketch® to make it easy to iterate on a music ideas: audition chord changes, quickly iterate on a melody, try a bassline, and all in hi def audio. ​
Do I need to know music notation?
While at the core MusicSketch® is a mobile notation app, users can easily lay down chord changes and create backing tracks. With minimal knowledge of music notation, users can explore melody ideas using either the DiBo!™ or keyboard. The app takes care of the nuances of music notation, and all the while letting you hear the beautiful sounds you create.
What is the business model for MusicSketch?
The Music Sketch app is free. The World needs more music!
Are my songs accessible by others?
​Your songs reside on your iPhone and your iCloud account, and are not accessible by others unless you explicitly share those songs.
What is the privacy policy for the MusicSketch app?
Please refer to the current Privacy Policy section in Settings.
Why can't I _____?
MusicSketch® is for capturing music ideas on the go, experimenting with new chord changes, creating bassline ideas, and quickly iterating on a new melody. You can create a lead sheet or even a complete song with MusicSketch®. However, while we support composition in two staves for piano sheet music, we currently do not support extra symbols such as dynamics, sustain markers, percussion notation and more. We do, however, support the common notation found in lead sheets.
